Question: I've bought Super Blond hair color recently (I have brown hair, just like it is shown on the box) to make my hair blond? But having read about it in the Internet, I got disappointed. People say that hair turns chicken-yellow with this color. Could you please tell me how much lightener do I need for thick shoulder-long hair to avoid the yellowness? And when can I use the hair color again?

Expert’s answer: There are several reasons why hair may turn yellow after the dyeing procedure.

1. Insufficient exposition of the lightening solution on hair. The usage instruction sets the average time, but we all have different types of hair. In case the lightener is used for the first time, it is recommendable that the dyeing procedure is supervised by an experienced assistant who should check hair condition throughout the whole time while the color stays on your hair. In some cases, the contact time should be longer, provided the hair structure allows that.

2. Low air temperature in the room (for instance, in winter or in case of a draft).

3. Initial hair lightness is below the average level. I'll tell you a bit more about this. It is true that a single solution is not able to lighten different types of hair to the same degree – that simply runs contrary to pure logic.

4. Your hair was colored brown or dark before (even a long time ago). In this case you need two-stage lightening.

Thick shoulder-long hair would take at least 3 Super Blond boxes. I recommend you to mix the powder with the developer milk in several stages, because the hair is long and the whole procedure will take a lot of time. It would be great to have an experienced assistant to help you. In case your hair was colored before, apply the lightening solution on the colored area first, then on the roots of your natural color. It is advisable to use the oxidative hair color 3 or 4 days after the lightening procedure, while the semi-permanent products (shampoos, balms) may be used immediately after it.
