Has this ever happened to you: you take your favorite sweater out of the washing machine, and it's only a cat's size? We're sure you've had more washes without a happy ending than you'd like. It's time to stop! Now we'll tell you a few simple rules that will help you keep your clothes (and your nerves) in their original form.
Read Labels
A trivial, but still useful piece of advice that will always come first when it comes to washing. Following the manufacturer's recommendations is a direct path to success. Honestly, no life hacks will help if you do not follow at least the basic care rules described on the inside label of the item. However, everything should be approached wisely. For example, many modern washing machines have a Hand Wash mode, in some cases it can be an excellent replacement for real hand washing. But what should be followed unconditionally is the temperature mode, and if it says "Wash at 30 degrees", then it is better not to risk it.
Separate and Conquer
The importance of separating items when washing is not just empty words. Even if you washed white with other colors once and nothing faded, this is not a reason to do it all the time, because white items require special care that is not suitable for colored fabrics. The minimum separation should look like this: white, light, colored, dark. In addition, it is important to separate washings not only by color, but also by type of fabric. For example, it is better to wash delicate items separately - silk, wool, cashmere, and also, for example, down jackets and membrane fabrics.
Choose Correct Products
This point follows directly from the previous one, because after separating things, you need to choose the right washing liquids. So, for delicate fabrics there are special powders, the formulas of which are selected in accordance with this task. Similarly with colored things: powders for colored fabrics help them to retain their brightness longer and not to fade due to the fact that they contain special components that retain the color in the fibers.
When you don’t know what to choose for white, light or pastel colored items, a great option is universal powders. Just when washing white items, don't forget to add bleach for an even more noticeable result. And if you see that there is a difficult stain somewhere, try to apply to it in advance stain remover in pencil or spray. After washing, the stain will disappear as if it had never been there.
Don't Disregard Laundry Bags
For some reason, many people skip this point, and in vain. At a minimum, you should wash underwear in special bags, especially underwire bras. At a maximum, they should be used for all delicate fabrics or, for example, for items with long belts, bows, laces, ties or straps. Such bags reduce friction and prevent tangling or stretching of the item, and this is already half the success.
Take your Laundry out of the Machine on Time
If the laundry is left in the machine for too long after washing, it may acquire an unpleasant smell. And we are not talking about clothes left in the machine for several days - sometimes a few hours are enough for a damp smell to appear. So it is better to take the laundry out immediately after washing is finished. But if you get distracted and the finished wash slips your mind, don't get upset! Just run the machine in the extra rinse mode, adding a little softener. We guarantee the freshness of your items!
Know Your Limits
It turns out that the success of washing depends largely on the amount of things in the machine. Less than half the drum is a bad idea, because the mechanical impact of things on each other is important for the washing process. Too many is also bad. And this is a mistake that everyone makes when they try to wash everything at once! When the machine is overloaded, the clothes cannot interact normally with the detergent, and the drum has a hard time working. So where is the norm? For washing mixed fabrics, use the one-palm rule: before starting the machine, make sure that the edge of your palm fits between the clothes and the drum. And in the case of delicate fabrics, especially wool, the rule of the golden mean works: fill the machine halfway so that items made from special fabrics do not harm each other when in contact.
That's it! Such simple and obvious at first glance rules that many forget about. Try to follow them all, and you'll see - things will serve you much-much longer!
