Аромат-Orangerie-Orchidee-1Perfumery art certificate is held by a small number of specialists worldwide, and each of them has rare knowledge in biology, physics, chemistry, all the while being a true artist.

The applied sciences are not enough to create fine perfumery masterpieces. It is absolutely essential to have the unique talent, giftedness, ability to identify the most delicate and subtle fragrance nuances and join fragmented notes into many-voiced and streamlined melodies.

Active nerve of a fragrance

Each artist has their own secrets and creative methods which may take years to evolve. An important part of perfumer’s work is the ability to understand and feel the story unveiled by a particular fragrance, get into its concept and use the perfume notes to embody the nature and spirit of the future creation. Each olfactory composition should excite genuine emotions, and to achieve this effect, they should first be experienced by the maestro himself!

Perfumer's diary

Many perfumers keep a diary. It helps to continue the freshness of feelings and impressions and correlate memories to fragrances. Perfumers make notes about unusual compositions and future works that may be finalized several months or even years later. It’s a common thing for a perfumer to wake up in the night and be struck by a new idea. The faster they get to their diary, the higher are the chances to create a new masterpiece.

It’s simple, but complicated

Many scents that are common in everyday life are not easy to reproduce. They are created by perfumers artificially as part of an olfactory composition. For example, the smell of a garden after the rain can be achieved with components that may seem rather strange for those who are unconversant with the subject. These formulas – freshness of a green meadow, home-made candies, old chemist’s shop – are developed and kept in perfumers’ diaries pending the day when they will be used in one of their works. Fancy that the smell of fresh carrots can result from orange, patchouli and iris blended in a certain proportion!

Time and maturing

A perfumer’s worktable looks like an alchemist’s laboratory. Test tubes with the olfactory ideas are waiting for their finest hour, while perfumers take a break to make critical assessment of their work. Creation of a fragrance is not a quick process: it has to ripen in the heart of a workshop, get a well recognizable “face” and become the source of the brand’s pride!
