The Canadian writer John Kehoe is known all over the world. He developed a system that uncovers the infinite possibilities of a human brain and helped millions of people globally to change their life for the better. In September 2012 John came to Moscow and disclosed his secrets on Faberlic’s International Forum.

Faberlic Journal: John, please tell us about yourself. What is your education, what had you been doing before you wrote “Mind Power into the 21st Century”, do you have a family?

John Kehoe: I'm a writer and lector. And I am endlessly happy that I can do the things that I like to earn my living. As the old adage tells us, “Blessed is he who found his work and his woman”. I have both. I like my work and I have been happily married for 20 years with a woman whom I still love. All these things make me absolutely happy.

Faberlic Journal: Is Mrs.Kehoe the only member of your family?

John Kehoe: My wife and me don't have any children. We didn’t plan it this way, but it just turned out to be like this… So we decided to go along with this fact. There are a lot of children around us, and we used this circumstance to become a good aunt and uncle for all our nephews and nieces. The Africans say: “It takes the whole village to grow up a child”, so we consider ourselves to be part of such a village consisting of numerous children of our brothers, sisters and best friends.

Faberlic Journal: How did you become a writer?

John Kehoe: I have been writing and teaching since I turned 31; in other words, I've been doing that for 35 years already. Now you know how old I am, but I’m not in any way concerned about that. I’m proud of my age and view it as an «honor badge”. Looking back at the past, I realize that I have lived to the full. I tried different types of business, and the most interesting was the five-year experience as a rock’n’roll promoter. It was an excellent period in my life and it taught me a lot. The skills that I gained then helped me later in my work focused on the human brain’s power and possibilities.

Faberlic Journal: It is true that you spent some time living in the forest like a hermit?

John Kehoe: When I was 28, I felt the intestinal need to give up everything, go to the forest and build a cabin there. I was single, without any strings attached, and I could afford the luxury of putting that idea into practice. I spent three years in the forest. That was a critical period in my life, because I managed to develop my own system uncovering the infinite possibilities of the human brain. Now I don’t want to stay alone within four walls… Every week I go to a small town to buy food and meet my friends. As concerns the aforementioned three years, I wasn’t completely isolated from the human society, of course. But that was a “quiet” period of immense creativity, and I was absorbed in thought then.

Faberlic Journal: How did your friends and relatives meet your decision?

John Kehoe: It was quite an unusual gesture on my side and many people didn’t understand it at all. Some of them thought that I was wasting my time and life, but I followed the need of my heart, so how can I call it a mistake? My father who has always supported me agreed with my decision unconditionally, even though he didn't know and didn't understand where it may lead. There were some other people on my side, but most of them thought that I was behaving strange. And that kind of attitude was quite natural, because my behavior was really very strange, but it brought good results finally.

Faberlic Journal: How is your day organized now?

John Kehoe: Each new day is different. Last year I travelled round the Earth three times, telling people about my new book called “Quantum Warrior: The Future of the Mind”, so I was very busy with trips. This year I mostly stay at home… I have a beautiful house with an ocean and mountain view in Vancouver (Canada). I work at home. At the moment, I’m sitting in my work room with piles of books and folders everywhere, enjoy the view of the ocean through the window and answer your questions.

Faberlic Journal: Can an ordinary person interact with his or her subconscious mind without a psychotherapist?

kehoe342298298

John Kehoe: Psychological therapy may be very useful in this sense, but it is not the only way out. Our inner space, actions and feeling are always closely connected with each other. You can discover the dark sides of your ego, if you pay attention to the repeated scenarios (patterns) in your life. In addition to that, you can influence the subconscious mind by repeating some of your thoughts. In fact, we often do that without realizing what exactly we have given away to and how it may harm us in response. The subconscious mind is highly sensitive to everything it gets from us. If we understand the essence and dynamics of this process someday, we will be able to establish “business cooperation” with our inner space.

Faberlic Journal: How was your book “Mind Power into the 21st Century” met by the analytical psychologists?

John Kehoe: I had advocates and opponents among them. Some specialists disdainfully viewed my book as a “popular psychology” edition, while others met it with great enthusiasm as a new method of working with human subconsciousness. But on the whole, I was favored by the academic community.

Faberlic Journal: What do people want most of all? I mean what is their most popular desire?

John Kehoe: Money and happiness – here are the two things that are desired by people in most cases. Curiously enough, these two goals don’t have anything in common. You can be fantastically rich and unhappy at the same time, or quite the opposite – have empty pockets and feel on top of the world. Each person has to decide how to strike a balance between these two extremes. I often say: “Neither money nor poverty will make you happy”. I’m sure that all of us should have money for a decent living, but at the same time we should live a happy, productive life. No need to choose between money and happiness, you can have both.

Faberlic Journal: Is it possible to kill a heavy disease with your methods?

John Kehoe: Of course! The possibilities of a human brain are infinite.

Faberlic Journal: Could you please name the books and writers that produced the biggest influence upon you?

John Kehoe: I am fond of poetry, especially such mystic authors as Rumi or Rainer Maria Rilke. I was deeply touched by the works of Ernst Holmes and Dogen. Carlos Castaneda books still fascinate me, even though I read them a long time ago. “The Tao of Physics” by Fritjof Capra is one more outstanding book… There is a huge number of inspiration sources all around! But let us not forget about the art and music, life of ordinary people who do unusual things. Inspiration is everywhere! You just need to find a spare minute to see that.

Faberlic Journal: What is happiness? A transient feeling? Or is it possible to feel happy all the time? Can we feel happy on our own, or do we need certain “circumstances” for that?

John Kehoe: I wrote a book called ”The Practice of Happiness”. Pay attention to the title: it is not the pursuance of happiness, but the practice of it. These are two different things. We “practice happiness” and if so, we find ourselves to be happy. Our happiness doesn’t depend on other persons or some external circumstances. It is rather dependent on the internal ability to value the world around us.

Faberlic Journal: If you were asked for advice related to life or child-bringing practices, what would be your answer?

John Kehoe: I would recommend to trust yourself only. Trust your feelings, intentions, hopes, the craziest dreams. Trust your inner voice. Try to be yourself. If you achieve that to the full, you will do great in life.

Faberlic Journal: You’ve been in many different countries… Where have your book and methods had the greatest success?

John Kehoe: My books are translated in many languages and they have found friendly audience everywhere. I was favorably met in Russia: more than a million of copies were sold here. This is unbelievable! I treat Russia with a special sympathy.

Faberlic Journal: What can you say about Russia and its citizens?

John Kehoe: I like Russians. I like to visit your country, I like your artists, dancers, musicians – they are ranked among the best in the world. And I appreciate your hospitality. I have many wonderful memories about Russia, and I hope I’ll come here again and again!
